Meet Katie

Katie Blaxberg Headshot

A life long Floridian, Katie grew up in the Panhandle of Florida in Fort Walton Beach.  A product of the public school system, Katie graduated from Ft Walton Beach High School and made her way to the Tampa Bay Area for college.  She graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Biomedical Science.  After graduation, Katie received her teaching certification through St Petersburg College.  Having taught in the district in various roles, she has seen first hand the challenges our teachers, students and families face.

Most recently, Katie worked as the District Aide for the Honorable Chris Latvala during his tenure as the Education and Employment Chair for the Florida House of Representatives.  During this time, the House passed landmark legislation that provided raises for teachers, and supported the rights of students and parents in the classroom.  In addition, with the support of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission, several school safety bills were passed to make our children safer in schools.  That commitment to school safety

extends to one of her top priorities as a candidate and Katie is proud to have Sheriff Bob Gualtieri’s endorsement.  Her work as a District Aide in service to the Chairman of Education allowed her to hear from families from all over Florida. Some of her key responsibilities include handling constituent issues, coordinating COVID vaccine distribution, crafting speeches and communication and planning town hall meetings.

In addition to her work for the Florida Legislature, Katie is an active and engaged community member.  Serving on the PTA at her children’s schools, various boards and numerous charitable organizations such as the Florida Holocaust museum, HEP, and the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties have allowed her to support her community in meaningful ways.

Katie is a mom to three children.  With one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school, Katie understands that each child’s educational needs are unique and getting those needs met can sometimes be a challenging process.  She is a proponent for school choice and understands that one size doesn’t fit every child.  Ensuring access to resources, educating parents on the varieties of schools and educational opportunities available to them through the Pinellas County School District, in addition to making the process easier to navigate is a top priority.

Katie’s workin in the classroom, the time spent working for the Chairman of Education, countless hours of constituent service as a district aide, serving on boards, her work with PTA and numerous charitable organizations have prepared her to serve in the role of school board member.  She understands the importance of collaboration and working together to achieve the vision and mission of Pinellas County Schools, which is 100% student success and to educate and prepare each student for college career and life.
